Birkenhead Village is a partner with Auckland Council through the Business Improvement Programme (BID Programme) and derives our income from a separate rate collected by council from business and property owners within its Village boundary. We are governed by an executive committee comprising of Village business owners, landlords and local board representatives.
As an incorporated society, a constitution prescribes its rules of operation.

- Economic Vitality
- Provides a vibrant Village ambience that attracts new quality businesses into the area while supporting the growth of existing businesses. We are now providing a benchmark market view measure to evaluate progress. Further as part of creating an Village ambience, we have a comprehensive security programme to protect businesses and monitor/report damage to public property.
- Market and Promote
- As we have had an active branding and promotional presence strategically and now work proactively on an annual programme of events to drive the destination Birkenhead Village to broader audiences. Additionally, we have an active marketing plan utilising social media and direct mail to promote destination Birkenhead Village to existing and new customers.
- Advocate:
- Advocates for our members with Auckland Council on council (Auckland Council, Kaipatiki Local Board, Council Controlled Organisations) and the interests of Village businesses to local bodies over major development works in the area.
- Infrastructure Enhancement
- Currently in 2026/27 there is a comprehensive programme of work for Birkenhead Village infrastructure with Auckland Council and their associated contractors in the areas of parking, street lighting, waste water infrastructure, Le Roys Bush reconstruction and slip damage to the Rawene Reserve which we are advocating really strongly while being mindful of business interruption consequences and mitigating the impact of these works.

Steve Simms is the chair person of the Birkenhead Town Centre Exec, a local business owner of Birkenhead Brewing Co (BBC). Steve is equally passionate about Birkenhead Village and is focused on ensuring the strategic future is bright for his fellow local business owners and landlords. steve@bbc.kiwi |
